Important 2026 Driving Test Booking Changes

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has rolled out massive updates to the practical driving test booking system. Designed to block automated bots, stop third-party cancellation apps from reselling slots at inflated prices, and make waiting times fairer, these changes place you directly in control of your booking journey.

Rule 1: Strict Two-Change Limit

You are now only permitted to make a maximum of two changes to your booked test appointment (which includes changing the date, the time, the test centre, or swapping with another learner). If you require any further changes, you will have to cancel the test and rebook completely.

Rule 2: Must Book & Manage Yourself

Only you (the learner driver) can legally book, change, or cancel your own test. Driving schools, independent instructors, and third-party booking services are legally banned from booking on your behalf.

Rule 3: Restricted Test Centre Changes

To prevent individuals from booking slots in distant regions and trying to move them closer later, you are now only allowed to move your test location to your original test centre or one of the three nearest test centres.

Before booking: Make sure you have my Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) personal reference number to link our schedules, and remember to only book your test when we both agree you are completely ready to pass!
