- The Strict Cut-Off: You must give at least 3 full clear working days’ notice to cancel or change your test appointment and receive a full refund or free reschedule.
- What Counts as a Working Day? The DVSA counts Mondays through Saturdays as working days. Sundays and public bank holidays do NOT count.
- Practical Example: If your test is scheduled for a Friday morning, you must submit your cancellation or change by the preceding Monday to receive a refund. Cancelling on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday means you will forfeit your entire £62.00 fee.

3. The 10-Working-Day Rebooking Waiting Period
If you take your practical driving test and unfortunately do not pass, UK law imposes a mandatory waiting period:
- You must wait at least 10 working days before you are legally permitted to sit another practical driving test.
- This statutory rule is designed to ensure candidates have sufficient time to undertake remedial tuition with their Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) to correct the serious or dangerous faults identified on their DL25 test report sheet.
- Because test slots are in high demand, finding a subsequent date often takes several weeks or months, reinforcing why entering the exam test-ready on your first attempt is so vital.
4. Theory Test Certificate Validity
Before you can sit a practical car test, you must hold a valid theory test pass certificate:
- Your theory test certificate is valid for exactly 2 years from the date you passed.
- Your theory pass certificate must remain valid on the exact date of your practical driving test. If your certificate expires before your practical test day, the DVSA system will automatically cancel your booking, and you will have to retake and pass the theory test before rebooking.
